This coal empty is leaving the (relative) straight track of the plains behind as it heads through Barbara's Gulch between Leyden and Rocky. Barbara's Gulch is something of the gateway between the plains (albeit rather hilly) of Denver and Arvada in favor of the Rocky Mountains and the true start of the climb to the Moffat Tunnel.
