As the push to move from coal to oil and natural gas continues, long unit trains of hoppers are slowly being replaced by long unit trains of tank cars. That's good news for some lines out there, one of which is the UP Limon Sub. Other than a daily freight and a few locals, the Limon Sub is primarily supplied by coal trains. Fortunately, oil trains will hopefully help to bring traffic to a line that is seeing a decrease in coal. Here, an empty oil train heads west through Strasburg, about 35 miles east of Denver.
