BNSF has had trackage rights on the Moffat for over 18 years. They were granted the rights by the Surface Transportation Board as a part of the condition of the UP/SP merger. They run at least one train each way, each day. The eastbound train, which originates in Provo, UT, frequently descends toward Denver in late morning or early afternoon. Such is the case on this day as the train, composed primarily of tanks, heads east at Rocky.
