Four years ago, the ES44C4 was a brand new model, specifically developed by GE for BNSF. Today, BNSF has over 1,100 copies on the roster. The unit only has four traction motors. The middle axles on each truck are "dummies", making the unit an A1A-A1A unit. While BNSF management seems to love the unit, I've heard that many engineers do not care for it (due to issues with traction and loading).
