After taking this picture, I started thinking about something. This might be the first time an Amtrak engine in the Phase I scheme (with the Bloody nose) has ever run over the Moffat. Amtrak ran through Wyoming until the Rio Grande Zephyr ended in 1983, which was long after the Phase I scheme had been discontinued. Here, the Pointless Arrow crossed the road at Blue Mountain.

Amtrak detoured a few San Fran Zephyrs off the UP mainline during the RGZ days, phase 1 SDP40F's for power. A few Rio Grande books have photos.
