BNSF coal trains on the Joint Line typically run with a pair of units (SD70-series or a GE equivalent) on the point and a pair of DPU's pushing on the rear. These train tend to be slightly underpowered and can be very slow climbing up to the Palmer Divide. Recently, BNSF has been running more of these trains with an additional manned unit on the tail end from Big Lift (south of Denver) to Palmer Lake. Here, a single SD70MAC is returning north to Big Lift to await its next assignment south.
