Adam, as far as I know, the "XR" is just an indicator that the SD40 has actually been rebuilt. I suspect its electrical system, etc, have been upgrade to "Dash-2" standards. So I'm guessing this is an SD40-2 "under the hood".

I have a Question for you, what does the XR after the SD40 stand for?
