The TXI plant - located roughly halfway between CO-72 and the south end of Boulder along CO-93 - is the last industry served on the north end of the Rocky Spur. Anybody who's driven past on CO-93 will probably remember it! This shot shows the plant along with the new "critter" being used to switch cars out at the plant.

It appears as though the GM8 that has been used by the TXI plant (at the end of the Rocky Spur) for so many years may have finally fallen off its last leg. This new "critter" showed up a few weeks ago and has been switching hoppers that the GM8 used to switch.

At the very end of the Rocky Spur is the TXI Plant (that has gone through several different owners over the years). For as long as I can remember, the plant has switched out covered hoppers using this old GM8. It is in pretty sad condition and may actually be inoperable at this point. It hadn't moved in several weeks at the time I took this shot. This is the VERY end of the Rocky Spur, just a few dozen feet away from CO-93.

For nearly three years, UP 1901 (ex-DRGW 3155) has been working on locals out of Pueblo. On March 11, the unit came north on the MPUNY for a 92-day inspection. Once released, it stayed in Denver rather than being sent back down to Pueblo. So, on March 15, it was on the Rocky Local for the first time in about three years!

The Rocky Local is headed east (geographic south), back toward the mainline at Rocky. This shot was taken at the grade crossing at the (former) west entrance to Rocky Flats. Now that the plant is closed, the guard station has been removed, and the public is free to access the crossing.

The Rocky Local is headed back east at restricted speed on the Rocky spur. The trains is coming from the Lafarge Cement plant, seen to the left, and is headed back toward the mainline at Rocky. UP 1901 (ex-DRGW 3155) is leading the local for the first time in about three years.

The Rocky Local back up the spur toward the former site of Rocky Flats. The train has SP 7954, DRGW 3100, and UP 5245 for power, plus 20 cars going along for the ride. UP 5245 was first-ever Rio Grande unit to be patched or painted. It is former DRGW 3122.

One of only three remaining Rio Grande units on UP's roster (as of the time of this shooting), DRGW 3100 is one of three units on the Rocky Local, backing up past highway 72 late in the afternoon.
