The MRONY is nearing the east end of Byers Canyon as the tracks get closer to the level of the Colorado River. The lead unit on the manifest, UP 6350, was SP 338 prior to the UP/SP merger.

The crew on this coal load is throttling up, ready to leave the siding of Carr north on a clear signal. The train will have to go as quick as it can up to Speer as the ZLADV will be there before long, ready to head south to Denver. The flat car sitting on the house track to the right has been there for over six months. The car literally broke in two on a work train. It was welded back together (as a temporary fix) and was setup here. UP hasn't gotten around to dealing with it yet. More than likely, the car will be cut up and scrapped right here, on the spot.

After waiting for more than an hour for the (rerouted) California Zephyr to show up at Carr, this northbound coal train is finally ready to continue north toward Cheyenne, leaving Carr on a clear signal. Note the end DPU's starting to shove on the rear of the train.

An Amtrak F59PH, which typically lives in California, is being sent to Chicago on the California Zephyr. I never did hear exactly why it was making the trip back to Chicago, but it made for a nice (and unexpected!) addition to the Zephyr.

A problem with a bridge in between Provo and Salt Lake City, UT has resulted in Amtrak being rerouted through Wyoming for a few days. Here, the Zephyr is headed south on UP's Greeley Sub at Carr. The lead P42DC does not have cab signals, so UP 4473 was added as a pilot for the trip from Salt Lake to Denver.

At the east end of Byers Canyon, a UP light power move is just entering the canyon. These nine units are heading for Grand Junction (or more likely, Glenwood Springs), where they will be used as mid-train swing helpers for the trip back east over the divide to Denver.
