Not far north of Nunn, the MNYNP charges north amid threats of a summer storm to the west. Save for the fact that the GE's are way too new, this shot harkens back to the 1960's and 1970's when you could find all kinds of crazy mixed power on UP, including DDA40X's and DD35's.

Just west of Shoemaker Canyon, this BNSF work train is passing another set of intermediate semaphores on its way toward Watrous.

A southbound coal load passes by the Colorado Springs depot as seen from the Colorado Avenue overpass. Note UP's Colorado Springs switcher sitting idle, awaiting its next assignment later in the week.

When it is not out on the road, you can always count on finding Union Pacific's Colorado Springs switch sitting just north of the depot on the east side of the siding in the Spring. Here, a patch Cotton Belt GP40-2 and a freshly repainted Rio Grande caboose (01513) sit waiting for their next assignment.

Just north of Nunn, the MNYNP is led by UP 6000 and a patched CNW AC4400CW. I always wonder where a handful of coal hoppers are headed when they aren't a part of a unit coal train!

Greeley (UP) Ski Train
Here we go...unless something very unexpected happens in the future, this is the very final shot of the Ski Train I will ever take. Certainly likely to be the last shot of the train in Colorado anyway. Light is rapidly fading as the Ski Train zips by as seen from the US-85 overpass just north of Nunn. Farewell, old friend.

A freshly painted rebuild GP40 (now a GP40-2R) is the sole power on the Longmont Switch. This unit was built many years ago as CB&Q 177! And a word of warning to the pickup...watch you don't swerve off the road! BNSF's Front Range Sub runs right up the middle of Mason Street in downtown Fort Collins.

Mason Street in Fort Collins is true street running. It can be difficult to shoot northbounds though and they are moving with the sun almost always behind them! Such is the case here as the Longmont Switch (running with a single rebuilt GP40) proceeds cautiously near the north end of Mason Street. Cars continue to drive along either side of the train.
