The track next to the train is currently the Arvada Siding but soon it will be turned into Main 2. A new Light Rail bridge will be built over the UP mains right at this spot! In the meantime, however, seven units lead BNSF's HPVODEN (Provo to Denver trackage rights train) toward Denver. And, if Amtrak had been on time, it should have been the Zephyr's headlight. However, the Zephyr is running about two hours late as the MRONY heads east past the depot. So what, right? At first glance, there doesn't seem to be anything special about the unit. However, it is the first C44-9W that I have seen wearing the New Image scheme instead of the Heritage II scheme! I immediately figure that meant a Warbonnet was leading. Alas, the Warbonnet led eastbound, but the crew kept the same number for the trip back west toward Golden. BNSF's Golden Sub, which the Beer Run uses to reach Coors, is visible to the right. However, due to that track being out of service further east (and continuing the "reroute" theme from the day), the Beer Run is currently using the Arvada Siding and crossing over halfway through the siding to the Golden Sub. Normally I wouldn't include a shot with such unsightly distractions, but I did so here to show the progress of the construction of a second main track between C&S Junction at Pierce Street. Once the new track (seen here) is ready for trains, the existing main track will be severed and reconnected to the new main. The Arvada siding (middle track) and the existing main will shift to the left to accommodate the new track. BNSF's Golden Sub (running to Coors) is visible on the left. The ballast has yet to be laid. In this shot, the new track will end up being Main 1 and the existing track will be Main 2. However, around the bend, the alignments will shift slightly and the existing track will become Main 1 and a new track (yet to be laid on the south side of the existing track) will become Main 2. During this time, two new crossing were installed. The crossing to the north of the existing crossing (right side of the picture) will serve as Main 1 once construction is complete. The existing main (center) will be Main 2. The crossing to the south (left side of the picture) will serve as the Arvada Siding. My dad and I set out to find some night shots on Saturday around 10:30pm. This shot was taken near the WY-59 overpass (geographically north of Bill a couple miles). This was a duration of 30 minutes and there were two westbounds (geographic northbounds) that passed by during that period, separated by about 12 minutes. I was glad there wasn't an eastbound (geographic southbound) during that stretch as it would have really washed out the shot!
