The American Orient Express is set to come out of Denver on this morning to head west to San Francisco. Originally, the MNYRO-09 was going to hold at Leyden to let the AOE pass. However, as the train approached the west end of Leyden, they got a green signal. The train was taken to Clay and a coal empty was released ahead of the the AOE. The coal train took the siding at Leyden, and the AOE got delayed!

I NEVER thought I would again see the day when SEVEN geeps could be found on the point of a train. It happen on this day though, when the Rocky Local was powered by three Espee GP40(M)-2s, three Grande GP40-2's, and a UP GP39-2. Black and white just seemed right for this picture, as it looks like it could have come straight out of the early 1980's!!!

Each winter, UP stores its business cars in Oakland, CA. In the spring, the cars ar taken back to Council Bluffs, IA. In the spring of 2005, UP decided to run the train over the former Grande from Salt Lake City to Denver. Here, the train passes through Leyden close to sunset. Two Phase II SD70M's (UP 3963 and UP 5226) led the train.

A very rare appearance not only on the Moffat Tunnel Sub, but also in the year 2005! An eastbound BNSF grain train was stopped in the siding at Leyden with five units, none of which were wearing the Heritage II paint scheme! Two H1's and THREE warbonnets, one of which was a GP60M.
