This 52-car MNPDV-02 (if my counting is accurate!) left North Platte, NE a day earlier and is seen here coming down the inbound track to UP's 36th Street Yard off the Greeley Sub. A day later, this same power would be used on the MDVNP and return north.

UP's Roydale Local, which heads east out of the 36th street yard on the Limon Subdivision, prepares to depart the yard. DS-86 has just given the train a track warrant to proceed east and perform their work. The power consists for two ex-SP (SSW) GP40-2's, a UP GP38M-3, and a UP GP38-2. The Quest building stands tall in the Denver skyline in the background.

Yard Shots TFM
Making a rather rare appearance in Denver, a TFM (Transportation Ferroviria Mexicana) SD70MAC is tied to a BNSF SD40-2 near the engine house at BNSF's 31st street shops. The TFM paint scheme is very close to that of the current Kansas City Southern scheme, as TFM is now a subsidiary of KCS.

BNSF 2800, a former GP30 now listed on the roster as a GP39M, leads up a yard transfer that is moving a very long string of intermodal containers from the Rennicks Intermodal Facility (near UP's North Yard) into BNSF's 38th street classification yard.

Yard Shots Rio Grande
One of the last three Rio Grande GP30's to be retired off the roster, DRGW 3006 was officially retired on December 23, 1998. By May of 1999, it was spotted in Burnham in storage. The unit was (as possibily is?) owned by Daniel Quiat, who will supposidly restore the paint and perhaps even get the unit in operational condition again. Over six years after being placed in storage, the unit remains…

It has been a long time since "Union Station - Travel by Train" stood above the cars from the California Zephyr. On this day, a special charter through Trains Unlimited Tours allowed that to happen one more time over the Silver Rapids.

Most of the cars on the California Zephyr were owned by either Western Pacific, CB&Q, or the Rio Grande. However, there was one car that was owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad. That car was the Silver Rapids. It was a contribution by PRR for getting passengers directly through (without transfer) from New York City to points west on the Zephyr.

The Silver Solarium was once owned by the CB&Q and ran on the California Zephyr. After the end of the Zephyr, the car was used on Amtrak for some time before being sold to Cedar Rail Enterprises. The car can now be chartered as was the case here when it ran with three other cars through a Trains Unlimited Tour. The configuration of the car was the same as the Silver Sky, owned by the Rio Grande.
