11/9/2006 - After being released from the shps in Roseville, UP 1983 is placed on the MRVRO-09 bound for Roper, UT, perhaps in captive service.

10/6/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) arrive in Fresno, CA on an Operation Lifesaver train.
10/3/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) arrive in Stockton, CA for a few days on an Operation Lifesaver train.
10/2/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) run in the Sacramento area on an Operation Lifesaver train. UP 1983 is on one end and UP 1996 is on the opposite end of the train.
10/1/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) arrive in Roseville, CA and are held for an Operation Lifesaver train.
9/7/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) depart Roseville, CA on the MRVRO-07 headed for Roper, UT, perhaps in captive service.

8/30/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) are removed from the QPDWC-29 in Stockton, CA. The pair return to Roseville, CA in the middle of the night on a hauler train. Later in the day, both units depart Roseville, CA on the MRVPW-30 headed for Eugene, OR, supposidly for interchange on the Portland and Western railroad.
8/29/2006 - UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) depart Portland, OR on the QPDWC-29 headed south toward West Colton, CA. (link)
8/27/2006 - After an overnight stay in Portland, OR, UP 1983 and sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee) depart south on the QPDWC-27. Train is estimated to arrive in West Colton on August 29 at 9:07p.
8/25/2006 - After two months of captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV, UP 1983 is paired with sister Heritage Unit UP 1996 (Espee). The two units head north on the MRVPT-24 toward Portland, OR.
6/17/2006 - After a few days in the shops in Roseville, CA, UP 1983 enters back into captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV. First trip east out of Roseville, CA on the MRVRO-17.
6/12/2006 - UP 1983 is placed in the shops in Roseville, CA.
4/8/2006 - UP 1983 enters back into captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV, first trip west out of Roper, UT on the MRORV-08.
4/6/2006 - UP 1983 departs Roseville, CA on the point of MRVOG-06, bound for Ogden, UT via the Feather River Canyon.
4/5/2006 - UP 1983 is the third of four units on a train that ran from Lathrop, CA to Oakland, CA, arriving early at 7:12am. Unit is then placed on the MOARV-05, heading back to Roseville, CA.
4/4/2006 - UP 1983 arrives in Lathrop, CA after travelling west on the point of the KG1LT-31 from Global 1, Illinois.
3/31/2006 - UP 1983 leads a double stack train west out of Global 1 in Illinois, bound for Lathrop, CA on the point of the KG1LT-31.
3/27/2006 - UP 1983 is placed at the shops in Keeave, IL.
3/24/2006 - UP 1983 continues east on the MNPG1-24, bound for the Global 1 facility near Chicago, IL.

1/30/2006 - Before arriving in Tucson, AZ, UP 1983 was moved over to the MPXWC-30 headed from Phoenix, AZ to West Colton, CA.
1/26/2006 - A busy couple of days now finds UP 1983 on the MKSTU-26 departing from Kansas City, MO and headed south toward the Sunset Route and Tucson, AZ.
1/25/2006 - UP 1983 leads on the MTPKC-25 departing Topeka, KS headed for Kansas City, MO.
1/24/2006 - UP 1983 continue east past Roper, UT across the Overland into Topeka, KS.
1/22/2006 - UP 1983 heads east out of Roseville, CA on the MRVRO-22.
1/15/2006 - UP 1983 leads the MNPRV-15 departing from North Platte, NE, bound for Roseville, CA.
1/12/2006 - UP 1983 was temporarily listed as the power of coal train CSBTV-12 after receiving repairs to its ATC/CCS equipment in South Morrill, NE. However, UP removed it from the coal train and it sits in North Platte, NE.
12/29/2005 - After almost a month in captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV, UP 1983 heads east out of Utah for South Morrill, NE where the units ATC/CCS will be repaired by Progress Rail.
12/5/2005 - UP 1983 enters back into captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV, first trip east out of Roseville, CA on the MRVRO-06.
12/4/2005 - With the Jacobi Special completed, UP 1983 returns to Roseville, CA.
12/2/2005 - After six weeks in captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV, UP 1983 is used on the "Jacobi Special", SEMSP-02 running over Donner Pass.
10/21/2005 - UP 1983 enters back into captive service on the MRVRO/MRORV, first trip east out of Roseville, CA on the MRVRO-21.
10/14/2005 - After being taken off the MEUNP-07 in Cheyenne, WY, UP 1983 is taken on a light power moved (ECYHN) from Cheyenne, WY to Harriman, WY. UP 1983 (and UP 3936) picked up the MNPRV-10 which was tied down at Harriman, WY. Train departed Harriman westbound around 1:30pm.
10/10/2005 - After an overnight stay in Hinkle, OR, UP 1983 is placed on the MEUNP-07, headed for North Platte, NE. (link)
10/9/2005 - UP 1983 is placed at the shops in Hinkle, OR after arriving on the MNPHK-06.
10/8/2005 - UP 1983 departs Nampa, ID on the MNPHK-06 headed for Hinkle, OR.
10/6/2005 - UP 1983 arrives on the CUWNYG-02 in Nampa, ID.
10/4/2005 - UP 1983 is picked up in Provo, UT by the CUWNYG-02, heading for Nampa, ID.
10/3/2005 - UP 1983 departs Roper, UT and heads down to Provo, UT for a few hours.
9/27/2005 - UP 1983 heads returns to running on the MRVRO/MRORV between Roseville, CA and Roper, UT.
9/26/2005 - After arriving in West Colton, CA, UP 1983 is immediately turned around and sent back toward Roseville, CA and "home" rails.
9/25/2005 - UP 1983 runs over Tehachapi en route to West Colton, CA on the QRVWCB-24. (link)
9/24/2005 - After a few weeks running between Roseville, CA and Roper, UT, UP 1983 heads south toward West Colton, CA on the QRVWCB-24.
9/15/2005 - After spending the night in Roper, UT, UP 1983 turned around and headed back for Roseville, CA on the MRORV-15.
9/12/2005 - UP 1983 enters revenue service on the MRVRO-12, departing Roseville, CA for Roper, UT.
9/10/2005 - UP 1983 arrives back in Roseville, CA, presumably to await revenue assignment.
9/9/2005 - UP 1983 is briefly interchanged with the CORP in Eugene, OR and sent down the CORP to Lobert, OR, where it is delivered back to the UP.
9/7/2005 - UP 1983 moves to Eugene, OR after a few weeks of display in Portola, CA and Klamath Falls, OR.
9/6/2005 - UP 1983 moves to Klamath Falls, OR (at the UP Depot) for display along with UP 3985 (UP's 4-6-6-4).
8/27/2005 - Several pictures are posted on Trainorders of UP 1983 on display at the museum in Portola, CA. (link)
8/24/2005 - UP 1983 arrives on the property at the Western Pacific museum in Portola, CA. It will be on display for a few days in Portola.
8/23/2005 - After nearly a week in Roseville, CA for maintenance, UP 1983 departs Roseville on the MRVOG-22 headed for Portola, CA.
8/17/2005 - UP 1983 has been placed in the shops in Roseville, CA for maintenance.
8/16/2005 - UP 1983 departs West Oakland on the MOARV-15 headed north toward Roseville, CA. The train arrived in Roseville before midnight, finally bringing the unit to its "home" rails.
8/15/2005 - Several pictures of UP 1983 travelling up the coast are captured by California Rail Fans. (link)
8/14/2005 - UP 1983 arrives in Los Angeles, CA after a long trip from St Louis, MO. UP 1983 departs LA later that night on the ILCOA-14 headed for Oakland, CA up the coast.
8/12/2005 - Shortly after sunset, UP 1983 on the IDULA-10 moves near its "home" rails in Salt Lake City, but heads down the UP LA&SL instead.
8/10/2005 - After leaving sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac) and the special SCBHO-08 in Kansas City (and going to St Louis), UP 1983 leads the IDULA-10 headed west for Los Angeles, CA.
8/8/2005 - UP 1983 departs Council Bluffs, IA on the SCBHO-08 with sister Heritage Unit UP 1982 (MoPac). In Kansas City, MO, UP 1983 is removed from the special with a few passenger cars headed for St. Louis, NE.
8/5/2005 - After spending a few days in Las Vegas, NV, UP 1983 departs on a Passenger Special headed for Council Bluffs, IA (SLVCB).
8/2/2005 - After running on a Passenger Special from Omaha, NE where the unit was unveiled, UP 1983 arrived in Las Vegas, NV. (link)
